Many people get up every morning and think to themselves, "I wish I could work from home." In fact, working from home occasionally can be great, especially when there is a foot of snow outside. But what if you could work from home all the time? Most full-time network marketers spend a great deal of time working at home. There are some things you should consider about working at home before you make that leap.

Maybe the most important consideration is your home environment. How many people live in your house? Do you have a place to set up a home office? Do have children? If so, what are their ages? Some people want to work at home so they can stay with their children. The truth, however, is if your children are small, it may be difficult (if not impossible) to get anything done when they are around. If you have a spouse that can take over the child care, at least some of the time, you might be able to work around the kids. It is important to be able to establish some kind of schedule that allows you to work. Of course, one advantage of working at home is that you can set your own schedule. So, if you want to work at night when your spouse is available, that is an option.

Having your own work space is crucial. It doesn’t have to be a fancy office, but it does need to have some essentials. At a minimum, you need a place for your computer and your phone (you may need a new phone line), and probably the ability to close the door. There is nothing like talking to someone about business while the kids are screaming and the dog is barking in the background. It is a distraction for you as well as the person you are talking to.

How distractible are you? Working at home means you have to clearly define when you are working. If you are constantly distracted by the fact that the dishes need to be done or the house needs to be clean, your work time is going to suffer. Even worse, you may decide to do those tasks rather than working.

How much do you like being at home? Working at home can be quite isolated. You may not see anyone except the UPS guy and other members of your family for days on end. You may not even get out of the house much and might get a little stir crazy. If you like a lot of interaction and talking in person, you may find working at home difficult.

Working at home does have lots of advantages as well. You don’t need a lot of clothes (you don’t have to dress up to go to work). You will save a lot on gas and parking. As mentioned above, you can set your own schedule. You can schedule around your families other actitivies. You don’t have to deal with office politics or the annoying office mate. You can listen to your own music and pretty much set things up anyway you want. It easy to make appointments and you can work around your kids’ schedules, sometimes making things a lot less stressful.

Before you decide to work at home on a permanent basis, it is good idea to try it out. Take some time off your regular job (if you can) and try working at home for that time. This will help determine any potential issues before take the step to work at home on a permanent basis. It is also important to discuss this potential change with the members of your household since it may involve some substantial changes for them.
