For those who don’t know anything about social networking they might say, "What does Twitter have to do with marketing?" But for those of us who do know, marketing online – Tweet your way to expert status is just another marketing tool using Twitter to brand yourself as the authority in your niche.
Who would have thought that typing 140-characters about what you’re doing could amount to anything? It seems like a teeny-boppers way of communicating with their friends doesn’t it? Tweet, tweetosphere, Twitter, what is this really all about and how can it help the average marketer get recognized as an expert?
Well, as you may or may not know social media networking is the place to be – not just for internet marketers, but for anyone who wants to build a name for themselves. This could be both on and offline. At first glance, Twitter looks like a simple way of communicating. It looks sort of silly with the @ sign posted everywhere and all of the URL’s compressed so you can’t make out what they are, but there is a method to this madness.
If you think about the goal of online marketing, it is to send traffic to your website in the hopes that they will buy what you’re selling. The other part of marketing is building a list of potential customers or repeat customers and building a brand for your business.
Twitter can, of course, be used for telling the world what you had for breakfast or how your date went last night, but it can also be used to effectively market your online business.
-Twitter allows you to post short messages, so there’s no need to write long articles or blog posts; just basically one liners to get people to your web pages.
-You want to only post messages related to your niche and they should always refer readers to your website or blog.
-Since the space is so limited, you have to be crafty with your words to get their attention. "ABC Business is having Buy 1/Get 1 Free."
-Each Tweet is a link to your page, so this builds links to your site.
-You can go through the search and type in your niche to see others who might be of interest to you. Follow them and wait for a few days to see if they follow you back. If they don’t, stop following them.
Basically, the more messages you create the more interest you stir up. For instance, if you posted three messages a day for a month, you would create quite a buzz for those interested in your niche.
Some of the blog software has built in "Follow me" or "Tweet This" options so when you post to your blog, in a few clicks you can add a condensed version to your Twitter page automatically.
Keep in mind that it takes time to see results from marketing online — tweet your way to expert status, but once people start to recognize you, you will create a list of followers who trust you and will buy from you.
